I'm a Mean, Mean Person!

So I had to write a personal narrative for school. (I know, school has started already... ugh!) And I thought it was pretty funny. So, I'm posting it here...

The wheels rotated faster and faster as we gained speed rolling down the hill. I pressed my hands against the seat in front of me to hold steady. The upper-middle class houses zoomed by as gravity pulled us down the hill. We approached the stop sign where, each day, our bus driver would make a rolling stop. The windows in the bus were all closed because of the fall transition into winter. It was inevitable; bus drivers hated elementary school kids. Therefore they would do anything to put them into danger. Mommy’s “precious, little angels” were no real angels, just devilish demons.

Our bus driver sharply turned the corner after rolling by the clearly visible stop sign. The back of the bus seemed to give you a much better feel of the road. This would come in handy if you were a surveyor, but I was a semi-professional student. Sitting on my knees, chatting with my bus-mates, my inertia refused to cooperate with the sharp turn the bus driver had made. I was thrown forward, toward the aisle. As a carefree eleven year old, I just went with the flow. Being thrown forward probably meant I would be thrown back. I was.

My head and torso quickly flew back as the bus straightened itself out onto Eminem Road. Making no attempt to stop my body, my head hit the side of the bus. Hitting your head on the side of the bus isn’t that bad, unless you hit it right on the edge between the steel, bottom half and the window, upper half. My head clonked against this edge, but I was oblivious.

I shot straight back up as if nothing hurt. (I think I was acting tough in front of my bus-mates.) But I did give some notice to the injury – I brought up a hand to the back of my head. Something was wrong though. My hand was feeling something warm, and maybe wet like I had just showered my head. I brought the hand in front of my chest and looked. I had to take a double-take because I couldn’t believe what I saw. There was blood on my hand. Not just a little blood, but enough to span three fingers.

My pupils dilated as I took in the shock.

“I’m bleeding!” I said, loud enough for the three sitting close by to hear.

This time a little louder, “I’m bleeding!”

I stumbled up and began to make my way up the aisle, as a bus-mate got up, only reigniting the terror in my mind. “He’s bleeding!”

The bus went around two bends in the road as I tried to steady myself with one hand, keeping pressure on my wound with the other. When I finally reached the front, we had arrived at two younger students’ bus stop. I sat down in the front seat while the kids got off. The interrogation was about to begin.

“What happened?” the overweight, curly, brunette bus driver asked me.

“I hit my head on the window.” I hadn’t known that it was actually the window sill.

“How bad is it bleeding?”

I took my hand off of my head and showed her the blood. She quickly brought down the first-aid kit from the compartment above her. She handed me the only pieces of gauze in it and then continued the torture.

“What’s your name?”

“Justin White.” I had ridden the bus for over 50 days now and she didn’t know my name?

The entire bus sat at the bus stop and waited while she called in the injury.

“You hit it on the window?”

“Yeah,” I said, knowing that I didn’t stutter the first time I told her, unless I had developed one from this blow to the brain.

I closed my eyes and it felt like eternity was going by as she lazily talked with “board base”. Finally, after what seemed to be hours, we continued the route. Of course there was no urgency shown to get me home quickly. We let the two brothers off at the next street and continued to turn around and go back up Eminem Road, passing the street that led to my demise.

One more stop at ChanningTatum Drive. I knew I would be okay. We came to the bus stop to find my dad waiting out there. I was very relieved to see another adult that would show more compassion than this fat, ugly, almost jobless woman.

“He was on his knees. I always tell them to sit down,” she shouted out the bus door.

“Yeah, it’s okay,” my dad replied.

But I was sitting down! I was sitting on my knees! And it doesn’t help when an eleven ton automobile gets swung around a turn with a stop sign to prevent any problems with inertia!

I wasn’t able to get into the doctor’s office until more than 2 hours after the accident. But that didn’t matter; I was home and I was safe from any potentially intoxicated drivers. At the doctor’s office, the very nice, compassionate, and not-so-fat nurse shaved off some hair around the gash in my head. She then proceeded to jab a needle right into the flesh of the wound to numb any pain. Three stitches were sewn into my head and forever etched into my mind.

I was very bitter for riding the bus home for a good three weeks. I think I am a bit bitter even after five years. That is not the point. I didn’t have any more accidents on the school bus after that because I always sat the semi-right way, just not on my knees. But I also had different bus drivers. (Perhaps they were more experienced.)

*The names of the streets were changed by the wittness protection program.

I met Dave!

I decided I would endanger my friends by standing on a street corner at night and talking to a yellow-shoe-wearing, wedding-band-holding, boom-box-carrying "homeless" man.

I don't know what I was thinking at the time. I think it was something along the lines of, "Don't be scared. He's a person too."

In a way, that is a very respectful thought. However, I ignored the fact that I would never see this man again if I just kept on walking. (But now it makes for a good story!)

So, we were walking back from the show (which I thoroughly enjoyed) and a rather tall, slim man walks up to us and explains that he has 60 cents and needs $3.60 to buy some food. (At one point I thought he said he wanted 2 dollar bills for 8 quarters, which was the reason I stuck around.) He tells my friend, Lisa (who he particularly liked ;-) ), that she shouldn't be scared because he is a Christian. (And yes, being a Christian means that you don't do anything wrong... psh) He points his fist at me for one of those fist-to-fist handshake-like things, so I give a nice fist to the fist. He hands me the 60 cents that he has collected for some reason (I proceeded to count it.) And then he goes on to tell us that his name is Dave and starts to say stuff about my other friends. He tells Lisa that she looks like a "bunny". (We have no recollection of what he actually said about the other two.) Now, I have no idea if he was having fantasies in his head about Playboy or what, but it was really weird. I then take out my wallet and give him 2 dollars. By this time, my other two friends had ditched Lisa and I and crossed the street.

That was one terribly odd experience. But it is now rather hilarious looking back on it.

(In the car we were all laughing our heads off because of what Dave said and how stupid I was.)

Mary Jane's at Work

So as I was walking to my car from work I could smell some marijuana from somewhere. I thought, "Oh, how delightful! Someone's smoking their Mary Jane right next to the pool entrance!"

The sad thing is this isn't the first time I've smelt marijuana on my way to the car. Another time I was walking to my car with my friend and her sister (who also work there) and my friend goes, "Justin! Stop smoking that stuff! It's bad for you!" (something like that).
I'm sure some of you wonder how I know what marijuana smells like...

Well, for starters, if you don't know what marijuana smells like, consider yourself lucky. It is always unpleasant to smell because you know someone is getting high somewhere.

I remember the first time I smelt marijuana and identified it as marijuana was on my way to the car back from a Major League Baseball game. I think I was about 10 or 11...

My dad... or maybe it was my mom... says, "I don't think they're smoking a cigarette up there."

And of course, me, the little naive 10 year old, says, "Oh, then what is it?"

"It's marijuana."

I began to get curious and asked, "How do you know?"

"Because there were people in my college dorm that used to smoke it and would tell me that I probably didn't want to be around. So I just stayed away from them."

Oh, this made since to me. My mom/dad would never do drugs. They were good people...

That would be the first time I smelt marijuana. And every now and then you get a not-so-nice whiff of it (especially where I live).

P.S. I took this picture at Target of a candy I had never seen before...

This song will make you cry, like it did me. Please listen to this intently, and listen to the words. It is so beautiful.

Rain meets with Snow

This week Rain, which had gone on vacation all summer, returned just in time to meet Snow. Snow showed up, but only left a few tracks along the trail. The next day rain came running after Snow, yelling for him to wait. The yelling made him perspire a little too much. So, now Earth is crying so much that her mascara is running down all over her face.

I secretly love it!

In The Arms of The Angel

Earlier this week I was just surfing on youtube when I was in my Celine mode. But that quickly wore off after I noticed Sarah McLachlan and Josh Groban - In The Arms Of The Angel in the "Related Videos" column. The lyrics of this song are just so fragile and frail. At first, I didn't really pay attention to the words they were singing. Sometimes I think I just listen to the music and I don't realize the message trying to be portrayed in the song, which is horrible because some song lyrics are just so beautiful and poetic. I realized this last night as I listened to it right before bed. Many times I long to perform songs such as this with someone, but then, I don't feel like I could adequately portray the message such as Sarah McLachlan does in her song. The song is beautiful and I'm sure almost anyone could relate to it. Sometimes as I listen to this song I imagine that I'm flying in heaven and being engulfed by this wonderful feeling in which all my worries and troubles go away, but I can only imagine.

Eva

Two kids, 9 years old, playing their interpretation of volleyball with a red balloon named Bobby Joe III. Yes, right behind me. Pretty annoying. "Until it pops", "We want new balloons every time", "Touched the ground!", "Ooo, Ow.", "OH! It hit my knee." True quotes right there folks.

I really don't have much to wrote about.

I was surfing youtube earlier today. The first video I viewed was of a little girl on Britain's Got Talent singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It was unbelievably good for a 6 year old. Then I heard a different version of the song at the end of the clip, and I saw in the comments that the person who sang it was Eva Cassidy. So I looked her up on youtube and there were more videos. First, I watched Over the Rainbow and then I watched Time after Time and then I listened to Songbird. All of these songs were crazy good. The sheer talent of this woman astounded me. Her tone was wonderful, and I was just amazed. Sadly, I found that she had died in 1996 of melanoma. The talent this woman had went unnoticed until about 2001. She had recorded with some small record company. But even today, she isn't very well known.

Dion

So... I just might be officially obsessed with Celine Dion. Okay, well maybe not obsessed, but I do love her voice. Yesterday, I listened to her songs and watched her performances on youtube for like 2 hours straight while chatting with Sandra. I really would like to see her show "A New Day" because not only does she sing but there are like 200 dancers dancing and doing acrobatics all around her. It looks awesome! But, it's in Vegas, and my family isn't going on vacation anywhere this year, and I don't think they would want to go to Vegas, and the show ends
December 15(?)

So, yeah, I basically told Sandra all of that and we, then, decided to take a road trip to Vegas. OH NO! It is NOT your regular road trip. We will be riding our bicycles to Las Vegas, Nevada. Sandra will be borrowing my bike from when I was 8 years old or so and I will be riding my two year old bike. We have not decided when to leave, but I suspect it would be soon. Lucky Sandra gets a bell to ring while driving on the highway, but we both will have flashing lights so we are not hit by an angry trucker or one of those utlra-fast mopeds. And as for the deer that may attack us in the night, we will use rocks. Yes. I know what you're thinking; How would rocks do you any good against deer? Well... when the deer charge toward us in our small shelter made of 3 cardboard boxes, we will pick up the rocks/pebbles and throw them at the deer. Because the deer will be complete retarded idiots, they will run straight into the middle of the highway!
And... DINNER!

Emmy's

So, the other day I tuned into CBS for the Daytime Emmy's, because those are the shows I watch during the summer. Not surprisingly, Ellen won for like Most Outstanding talkshow which I'm happy with because The View is just a bunch of old women PMSing and Dr.Phil does the same thing every show, Tyra Banks is a joke, and Montel Williams wasn't even nominated. Okay, get to the point - The Emmy's were RIGGED!

So, CBS hosted the Emmy's and I guess it was just coincidence that like over half of the nominees were from CBS with the other half being ABC, NBC, or Syndicated (multiple networks). Out of all the awards given out, CBS recieved 25% of them. ABC got about 16%, PBS - 13%, and NBC - 8%! If you add up the total awards won by the three major brodcasting companies then that leaves CBS with 51% of the awards. In some catogories there were like 4 nominees from CBS and 1 from either ABC or NBC.

The View tied with Sesame Street with 10 emmy's each.

Dr.Phil tied with Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks with 4 emmy's each.

Not that I watch any of the soap operas, but this awards show was completely fixed and I think someone needs to speak up about it!

By the Way: I think Bob Barker is a quitter!
